Sky Martinez — Production
One operator. Full kit.
No wasted time on set.
Shoot days don’t have room for error.
The light changes. Talent gets tired. The window for the right shot is shorter than it looks. I show up prepared, move efficiently, and get what we came for.
Canon R7. Sony FS5 Mark II. Lavalier and shotgun audio. LED lighting. Gimbal stabilization. DJI drone — FAA Part 107 certified.
One operator who is also the director. No crew overhead. No direction getting lost between the person with the vision and the person behind the lens.
What I pay attention to that most shooters miss
Sound design starts on set.
The way a space sounds shapes how the ad feels. The room tone, the ambient texture, the clean dialogue capture — these determine whether your post-production sounds produced or hollow. I capture it right the first time.
Pacing is built into the shoot.
I know what the edit needs before I hit record. Every shot has a purpose. Every angle earns its place in the sequence. I don’t shoot hours of coverage hoping something works — I shoot what the ad requires.
Every frame is designed to be watched twice.
Once on a phone, sound off, at 1.25x. Once full screen, sound on, leaning in. Both have to work. The visual hierarchy, the text, the motion — all of it is composed with both views in mind.
Shoot day is where planning becomes footage. Come prepared or don’t come at all.
